Virtual Math Manipulatives

In my previous posts, I started to show some virtual applications and websites that would help a variety of learners in the classroom, as well as reinforce skills at home.  There are 3 types of learners in every classroom: audio, visual, and hands-on.  Great teachers include activities and instruction for each type of learner, so that they are able to shine and show their knowledge on a given skill. Some students with disabilities may have poor fine motor skills, so the use of manipulatives in the classroom might not be a good choice.

The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives
is a great resource full of free manipulatives that are entirely web based.  A student who isn't able to physically use a manipulative could have it on their I-pad while the rest of the class is using the manipulative.  A nice thing about this website is that it is divided by grade level and Math strands.  An issue I encountered when exploring this website is not having a Java Player, so you might need to install a plug in if used at home.
